After a crazy flight on a narrow plane trying to get to the tiny mountainous town of Aspen, Colorado, I finally arrived at my destination. It is always a pleasure to be on site in person to oversea the installation of one of my artworks. For this sculpture in stainless steel, creation started early this year in Dublin before the piece was shipped over to the USA.
It is always a magical moment when the piece is installed, and suddenly becomes one with the space it has been made for. On this occasion, the sculpture sits outside the impressive Aspen Chabad Jewish Community Centre, framed by an awe-inspiring mountain, reflecting back the blue sky as well as the red-orange-gold trees either side of it. As an artist you can never quite predict how the colours, scents, sounds and energy around the artwork will affect the piece, so there is always a little surprise to look forward to. In this case it is a wonderful collaboration with nature as the sky and foliage become reflected in the shiny steel surface and the sunshine creates light projections and shadows of the meaningful words which make up this text sculpture..
